Cold and wet?
Too hot to think?
Here are some alternative suggestions that include some indoor venues and inspirations away from the villa.
Weather in this area is surprisingly ‘local’. It may be raining in Benalmadena but quite possibly not in Malaga. It is worth checking local forecasts before venturing out!
I’m suggestions three main areas – Local Benalmadena, Malaga Centre, Plaza Mayor. Some ideas for all are below. Of course there are loads of other places to visit. You can book local excursions via the FAQ page of our website.
For the local Benalmadena area –
In Puerto Marina there is the Sea Life Centre. Fully indoors, well done, and surprisingly relaxing — even for adults.
Also in Puerto Marina of course there are loads of restaurants and bars and indoor entertainments. Watch the world go by enjoying a vino tinto and some tapas!
The Butterfly Park – Technically outdoors but covered and tropical, so still works in light rain but may be humid depending on time of year. All in all a surprisingly nice day out though.
The Cable Car – a good one for hot clear days but no good in bad weather! Great views from the top!
The Ice Rink – what could be better when it’s too hot or wet to go out?!
And just so that I don’t exclude one lovely Benalmadena attraction ….. albeit not an ideal destination for extreme weathers….. head to Selwo Marina! It’s great fun and again for all ages. If you don’t have a kid to tag along with don’t worry!
All of the above are either walkable from the villa or a few minutes ride by taxi/uber/bolt.
Malaga Malaga Malaga
A truly great city!
Málaga is honestly one of Spain’s best rainy-day cities
Museums (world-class and central)
You can walk between most of these with umbrellas:
- Picasso Museum – the standout, very atmospheric on rainy days
- Centre Pompidou Málaga (the Cube) – modern, spacious, very well curated
- Carmen Thyssen Museum – Andalusian art, beautifully displayed
- Málaga Museum (customs house) – archaeology + fine art, huge and free

The car museum, just outside walking distance to the centre, is a personal recommendation! Easy in taxi!
Historic interiors
- Málaga Cathedral – impressive inside and dry
- Roman Theatre Interpretation Centre – small but interesting and sheltered
And for shopping in an interior centre try CC Larios.
Whilst in Malaga, some famous places to stop at are:
Try the Malaga Dulce vino!
To get to Malaga you can walk to the train station at El Pinillo (or get taxi/uber). For the centre you will need to get off at Malaga Centro Alameda. You can see details in the FAQ page of our website.
Between Benalmadena and Malaga is Plaza Mayor. A great place to spend the day out of the rain or sun. There is an outlet mall with some good designer offers, a cinema with some original language movies and some good restaurants.
